I'm not arguing Lundqvist has had great support, see my previous post about TBL in 2015, but he also hasn't consistently risen to the occasion like others who have won it all.
Doesn't take away form his accomplishments, but also doesn't put him up there with the guys that have stood on their head and won it all when their team wasnt performing. - MiloslavHorava
The only Goalie I can remember winning it almost on his own was Giguère in 2007. He also almost willed his team to win it in 2003. He won the damn Conn Smythe in a losing effort.
But then look at his regular season stats. |

Jan,
Couldnt agree more, no need to trade or move Hayes or Zib UNTIL you know what you have. Chytil and Anderson have not played 1./2 and NHL season. It makes no sense to trade a proven commodity until you know what you have. They ONLY thing the Rangers have right now is time. Use this season to see what you have and what works.
I'd love to see Boo back as 4th line center this year, but they need to build that quality 4th line. He fits that role better than any of these other guys.
As for EK, hard pass... for the money and the age he will be when the Rangers are out of rebuild mode in 2 years, he doesn't align with where the organization is heading. Stay the course you have already set and rebuild with the draft, don't make the same mistake they have made over and over again in years past! |

people forget the bad goals that Richter gave up
they also forget he lost the starting job to Glenn Healy after the Cup for a period
Could you even imagine Henrik Lundqvist losing the starting goalie job to Glenn Healy? |

"After the cup"
IF Hank lost his job AFTER he won a cup to anybody, nobody would care, his legacy would already be cemented with the cup win |

Only way this whole rumor makes sense is if we take Bobby Ryan and EK, then eat half of Karlsson's salary this upcoming season and flip him. He then comes with a ~$3.25M cap hit making it so any of the contending teams can fit him in and we can get a kings ransom (obviously more than we pay for Ryan and EK) which jump starts the rebuild.
Bobby Ryan's contract blows as it is a 4 year deal. But I really don't care about the first 2 years of that contract. I want to position ourselves for the 3rd year of this thing. So I look at it like, ok we have 2 years left of Bobby Ryan that we don't want. We either buy out those last 2 years, eat 50% salary and deal him then, or move a pick at that time for a team to take the contract, which won't be as expensive with only 2 years left.
I just see that as an opportunity to really leverage out cap space the next 2 seasons.
Trading for and signing EK makes 0 sense. |

I'd also explore Pheneuf (3 years left), Hossa, and Horton. Last two we can LTIR and are just footing a bill, but apparently Leafs and Hawks want those cotnracts gone.
LTIR reduces flexibility just a tad, but only matters if we are really up against the cap, which we won't be for the next 2 seasons at least. |

Trading for him at all makes no sense. Too much to give up and take on in Ryan's contract. What if they don't suck this season or next? Ryan's contract becomes a lead weight you can't get out of. I get flipping EK at the deadline but Ottawa can just do that.

So some people want to trade for EK by giving up assets for 1 year of EK, during a rebuild in which we are not expected to compete. Then sign him to a monster contract.
Makes complete sense. |

the Rangers didn't score a goal after the 2nd period in any games of those finals, it wasn't just overtimes
Lundqvist didn't have Mark Messier scoring a hat trick in front of him in the 3rd period |

True as well, but since nobody did, everyone looks to the leader, most vocal and highest paid player on the team, the face of the franchise. That's life. |

I stand corrected on Salary, the rest is correct. When ANYONE thinks of the N.Y. Rangers, they didt think of Rick Nash or Brad Richards, so lets be realistic |

Stop... We need to embrace this rebuild. Stop kidding yourself about the next 2 seasons. And you do realize with what I laid out you may give up assets to Ottawa but with the idea you acquire way more in return flipping just Karlsson right?
I don't get why people are so scared of taking on a bad contract. It is an asset for us right now. If taking on Ryan gets us EK, whom we can sell off at half salary, we'd get laughable amount of future assets in return. You can turn to any team and ask for their top 2 prospects a 1 and a 2. EK at $3.25M turns any one of Toronto, TB, Bruins, Penguins, Sharks, into THE favorite to win the cup. Ottawa stupidly wants to package EK with that anchor of a contract, and we should take full advantage of that stupidity, even if the plan is to buy Bobby Ryan out after 2 seasons. Just need to ensure we are truly getting can't miss prospects and have a deal in place for EK ahead of time. |
